[ESS] .emacs file seems not fully operative since upgrade from 22.3 to 24.3

Ah yes,  sure.

Actually my emacs (23.1 on debian) doesn't default to home anymore. In
my case with emacs -q settles in ~/Documents/ for some reason. And this
is quite recent behavior.
