[ESS] Fwd: Special characters in graphic interface

I had the same problem as François in the past. I observed that the little
squares would not show up in a graphic created with Sweave, so used it as a
workaround. It never occurred to me that ESS could be at fault.

So, out of sheer curiosity, how/where is ESS involved in this problem? I would
think that the commands to create the graph are just passed to R and that,
from then on, anything happening to the graph would be R's fault.

Thanks in advance for enlighting me.
