Evaluate a region didn't work?

I'm really confused.  That isn't the Windows problem I'm used to
(which did allow C-c C-l, and didn't like the multi-command sending,
C-r or C-b).  Can you send the contents of the *ESS* buffer to
ess-bugs at stat.math.ethz.ch (there is a bug-report feature on the menu
which helps make this easier).

Which version of XEmacs are you using? Which version of ESS?  

And does it happen under Emacs on SuSE?
