ESS and remote interactive SAS

First of all, a big thanks to the authors.

I am trying to get ESS to run SAS interactively on a remote unix 
system.  I run linux locally, and can successfully open/edit .sas 
files on the remote system (syntax highlighting, etc. works).

I follow the directions for remote proessing in 
http://stat.ethz.ch/ESS/Manual/ess_3.html#SEC14

The thing that I can't get to work right is to get the log output
routed to a .log window, results routed to a .lst window, etc.
