ESS 5.1.19 & Emacs 21.1.3

I've just tried the new GNU-Emacs:

GNU Emacs 21.1.3 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GNU/LessTif Version 1.2 Release
0.89.4) of 2001-10-25 on localhost 

with ESS-5.1.19

and R: 

platform i386-pc-linux-gnu
arch     i386             
os       linux-gnu        
system   i386, linux-gnu  


where "?ls" produces

"ess-error: ESS process not ready. Finish your command before trying
again."

("C-c C-v" works) and "C-c C-x" produces

let*: Wrong type argument: sequencep, 1

..of course, all these works with GNU Emacs 20.7.2
