weird thing with help fix

I know -- that's part of the problems I'm trying to solve, but have
been taking the "fix it right" approach, rather than the "incremental
fix" approach (there are arguments for why each is better, let's leave 
it there).  

There morally ought to be a release this weekend, we've got some fixes 
commited to the source repository...
