I'm also a long time user of the ESS/AUCTeX integration, so am aware of
this issue.  Until some mechanism is in place allowing polymode to
provide the same integration with AUCTeX, I can suggest simply calling
`Rnw-mode`, which will run the necessary hooks to enable the
integration.  If you subsequently run `poly-noweb+r-mode` then you also
get polymode enabled.  Obviously this is a temporary work-around for the
time being.
