[ESS] Installing ess from git - summary after make?

I update ess regularly from git with the following script:

#!/bin/sh
cd ~/.emacs.d/ess-git
git pull
git gc

make clean
make all
##############

I do the same with org, and I get at the end of the compilation, a
status message, e.g:

Done (Total of 106 files compiled, 3 skipped)

Would it be possible to get the same for ESS as well? This wuld make
spotting errors during make much easier to spot.
