[ESS] Having trouble installing ESS

Hi Dave, 

For new users, the recommended way to install emacs+ESS on Windows is
Vincent Goulet's distribution:

Is this space intended? The above should definitely work if you have the
right path. Otherwise you should get an error message from emacs. As the
error apparently not happening in your case, your .emacs might not be in
your home path. To check if your .emacs is really loaded put

    (set-background-color "pink")
