[ESS] new user questions: appending to transcripts and buffer management

Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case, at least not on my 
version of emacs (23.1.1).  When I rename the buffer to *R*, 
toggle-read-only, and do M-x R, it launches a new buffer called "R:2".
