Note that I evaluated the code from the *.R buffer with `C-c C-c' in
all three cases. 

* Everything is fontified correctly in the a.R buffer.

* Comments are displayed correctly in all cases in the *R* buffer.

* Comments are displayed incorrectly only in Emacs 22 and 23 when
  entered directly in *R* buffer (not shown).

* Strings are displayed correctly in the *R* buffer only in Emacs
  21.4.
