[ESS] Enable recursive minibuffers for other sessions too

Hi,

With XEmacs-21.4.15 and ess-5.2.12 on
SunOS fluke 5.9 Generic...

I am struggling with permanent interference of

Enable recursive minibuffers for other sessions too? (y or n) No
Enable recursive minibuffers for other sessions too? (y or n)
Minibuffer already active: abort it with `^]', enable new one with `n':

I am not aware that I ever switched on such questions. I first noticed 
this behaviour when I opened files in a new frame. But it does not seem 
to be the existence on a second frame which forces me to look and press 
"n" twice before I can continue working.

What am I doing wrong?
What is equivalent to `^]' on a Windows keyboard?
