[ESS] back/forwardslash incompatability

Ah...  I see the problem.  It's an XEmacs bug, trying to be smart.  ARGH.

There might be a flag for this in XEmacs, and we'll look at it, but at
this point, sorry, thanks for the bug report.  (D*MN, one more fix
needed...).
