[ESS] ESS, install.packages() in R, and Windows

select.list(LETTERS[1:7])
freezes the *R* window.
I killed R from the Task Manager.

In a new *R* window, I opened a trellis device first.
then
   select.list(LETTERS[1:7])
opened a selection window.  

On the first occasion the window would not vanish when I
clicked ok on the selection, nor when I clicked cancel.

I killed the selection window from the Task Manager and it
took the rest of R along with it.

I couldn't duplicate this.  The window worked normally the next few times.
