Kasper:

I think the behavior that you want can be turned on rather easily.  What is your 
variable ess-sas-edit-keys-toggle set to?  Does your preference for indenting 
return when you execute the following function:  (ess-sas-edit-keys-toggle nil)
If you can confirm my suspicions, I can place a note about this in ess-site.el
