Hi Rich
I think that you may be able to duplicate my problem if you just start with
no function and type C-c C-d to begin a new function. This is how I
normally began creating functions in the previous version of ESS.
>From the R > prompt C-c C-d takes me to the mini buffer where the
query returned is 'Object to edit:'
I then type into the min buffer 'my.new.function'
and the error message returned in the min buffer is 'Wrong type
argument: stringp, nil'
On the other hand, if I copy some properly coded text into an emacs
buffer to create the function script and save it in the R-src subdirectory of
my data directory, in the correct filename format for my R scripts, eg,
'smc.my.new.function.R', this script dumps fine with C-c C-d and loads
with C-c C-l.
Hope this additional information helps a little,
Best fishes
