Oh, I know this one! Put this in your .emacs:
(fset 'run-r "\C-x2\M-xR\C-m")
(global-set-key "\M-r" 'run-r)
Now Meta-r (hit ESC then hit 'r') will split the screen and run R in the
upper
half.
