Sqpe+6 in Windows 2000

I am experiencing difficulties using Sqpe+6 in Windows 2000. Prior to
upgrading from Splus2000 to Splus6, I had no problems with Sqpe+4.

When I use Sqpe+6, I do not get an Splus command prompt in the iESS window.
However, I can type in commands and the results of commands get returned to
this window. If I use a help() command, Windows help opens, but Emacs then
locks up and is difficult to kill. Worse, in killing emacs, it appears that
entire folders were deleted on my system (I looked for other explanations
such as viruses, disk problems etc. and could find no evidence to the
contrary).

I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I can get sqpe to run properly.
