It is actually a little more complicated. Splus6 also looks at the
following environment variables:
getenv("HOME")
getenv("S_MYSWORK")
getenv("S_WORK")
getenv("S_TEMP_SWORK")
The S-plus functions standardInitialize and standardWorkingData look
at these environment variables in deciding what chapter directory to
use.
