infinite loop in xemacs (20.0) w/ ESS for SAS (5.1.18)

I'm already doing this so I don't think that is the problem, but I could be 
wrong.  Here's what I've got in ~/.emacs:

(require 'ess-site "~/ess/ess-5.1.17/lisp/ess-site.el")
