Interruption of a running job

It is a pity to learn that it is impossible to interrupt a
running job and keep the process active within M-x Sqpe+4.
I use M-x Sqpe+4 a lot more than M-x S+4 because the latter is
not consistent with its counterpart in Unix, and I have to
switch between different windows which make my laptop display
very busy.

C-c C-c does kill the process on Win98 and S-PLUS 2000. Currently
to stop a job, I have to kill the process and start it again,
which is time consuming if the current buffer contains a lot of
output.

Thanks for the help.

Paul.
