The message you get looks suspicious.
E:\Splus\MASS\S_PROJ=E\SPLUS\MASS
shows a path name separator problem.  S-Plus should be
using either
E:\\Splus\\MASS or E:/Splus/MASS

What shell are you using?  What is the statement that you are using to
make S-Plus want to open a batch file?
