^M in Stata

Try this out and tell me if it works.  I don't use stata myself, but
this is the standard emacs response to control-M characters.  Let me
know if it works.  If it does, Tony will put it in the next revision.

Go to the *scratch* buffer.  Copy this line
  (add-hook 'comint-output-filter-functions 'shell-strip-ctrl-m nil t)

place the cursor at the end of the line and enter control-J
Go to the stata buffer and type something.  The ^M should no longer appear.
