(The archives have been available via 
 ftp://stat.ethz.ch/Mail-archives/ess-help/  for years now,
 but I agree that they should be more visible..)

**HOWEVER** this *is* primitive:
Just directories of monthly postings to ESS-help and no search facility..
(but you can always mirror and then grep ;-)
