Thanks a lot for your response, that was very helpful. I've managed to get my head around the javascript code produced by the writeWebGL function: I now have a 4d interactive animation that can be played in a web browser. Let me know if you're interested in seeing it and I'll send it to you by email.

No, that's not currently supported. You could probably do it using
Javascript in the web page produced by writeWebGL. I'm not sure whether
it could be done entirely using the template argument, or whether you'd
need to manually edit the writeWebGL output.
If you put together something like this, please let me know. I'd like
to see it.
