Hello,
The period is a metacharacter so you have to escape it.
The period is escaped with a '\'. In it's turn, '\' is a metacharacter
so it needs to be escaped. Hence the double'\\'.
x <- "LOI ."
gsub("\\.", "(%)", x)
Hope this helps,
