[R] Asteriscs in a plot to represent approximate size of p-values

Hi,

   I need to place double and triple asterics (or
stars) to highlight very low p-values. I am using
points, for example:

points(ssdx,ssdy,pch=8,cex=.9)

   but this allows me to place only one asterisc, how
can I place 2 or 3 asteriscs?
