I guess this would qualify as a bug. It should be fixed by R 1.9.0, for 
now, a possible workaround is to add

histogram( ~AKTIVE | BIRTHMONTH,aspect=1,xlab="Geburtsmonat",data=dmy,
          xlim = levels(dmy$AKTIVE))
