Hmm, I thought I had it working, but now I can't figure out the
arguments to `function`:
> `function`(NULL,NULL)
function ()
NULL
> `function`(alist(a = 1), NULL)
Error: invalid formal argument list for "function"
I'm obviously missing something dumb.
