What about just defining your own function that places point at the end of
line? E.g. (not tested)
(define-key comint-mode-map [up]
(lambda ()
(interactive)
(comint-previous-matching-input-from-input)
(move-to-column (length (current-line)))))
Or you could even use `defadvice` to modify
comint-previous-matching-input-from-input itself.
It seems like this, or something like this, should work ... this is emacs,
there are always ~1000 (inconsistently documented) ways to skin a cat.
