[ESS] problem installing ESS - linux - non-administrator

Hi Rodney & Stephen,

Stephen advice didn't work here, but ESS 5.2.4 install smoothly! 

Syntax and embedded R work fine!

I'll also try to convince the systemn manager to update emacs and install the supported updated ESS version.

Hi Javier:

Ouch!  That's ancient, circa 2005.  With recent ESS, we only support
GNU Emacs 23 and 24;
see http://ess.r-project.org/Manual/ess.html#Requirements

Of course, you could try an equally ancient version of ESS such as
ESS 5.2.4:
http://stat.ethz.ch/ESS/downloads/ess/VERYold/ess-5.2.4.tar.gz

However, as you might have guessed, that is not supported any longer
either.  Good luck!
