Hello,

I found a workaround:

--- doc/ess.texi	2013-02-25 18:41:57.000000000 +0100
+++ doc/ess.texi	2013-02-25 18:54:00.000000000 +0100
@@ -9,7 +9,7 @@
  @include ess-defs.texi
  @titlepage
  @title ESS --- Emacs Speaks Statistics
-ESS @w{version @ESSVER}
+ESS version @ESSVER

  @c --- KEEP this synchronized with ./authors.texi :
  @c                                 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I do not know if this is considered as a hack, but it seems not very likely to me that there will be a linebreak within "ESS version @ESSVER" in any circumstance.

Best Regards,
  Stefan
