[ESS] How to avoid search for versions of R

Hmm ... this is indeed quite a big jump.

I see. This is the doc of `ess-r-versions'. After a cursory look of the
code, I didn't really understand it -- too many things are created over
there. But I can see that the variable ess-r-versions doesn't have much
effect on the whole process. So it looks to me like a bug, or a mistake
in the documentation. 

I also don't think ESS start-up is noticeably slow. For me it's
virtually instantious. And I load it from source, though on Linux. May
be it's something else what is going on over there.
