[ESS] reading from stdin

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get input from the terminal and emacs just hangs when I call readline(). Is there something stupid that I'm missing?

More specifically, I'm trying to review a series of record one by one and enter a decision for each of them. It's easy to work around it, but it just seems silly not to be able to capture input from stdin (or whatever the equivalent should be).
