[ESS] Problem with ESS

By the way, the reason that I am asking has to do with what Cygwin 
really is.  Cygwin is a UNIX-a-like environment where you can run FOSS 
applications like emacs.  These applications don't know they are running 
on Windows.  The source code for these applications is largely unchanged 
since all of the UNIX niceties like libraries, shells, commands, etc. 
have been provided.  Therefore, I suspect that the Cygwin version of 
XEmacs is no different than the UNIX version and subsequently 
ess-microsoft-p is nil and w32/win32-short-file-name is not provided 
since XEmacs was not compiled for the Windows API.  Is that
the case?  I haven't done much testing with Cygwin recently since I
suspect that most Windows users do not use it (which I find sad, being 
the UNIX zealot that I am).
