[ESS] Problem with menus with emacs 23.1.1; suppressing extra window

Hi Professor Harrell,
The first problem is probably due to this bug:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=550541 and the
workaround is run export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 before starting emacs.
It's very annoying, hopefully they will fix it soon.
