[ESS] function/file name completion in .R buffers?

I was wondering whether it would be possible to achieve completion on function names in (say) the base R package, in a .R buffer in which one is writing R code (i.e. not in the *R* process buffer). All the message on this maillist that I found in a quick search concerned completion on object/function/file names in the *R* process buffer. Could someone let me know if this functionality exists or if I've overlooked discussion of it? If not I'd be interested to hear any thoughts on how desirable / hard it would be, or suggestions of how one could go about it. (File name completion in .R buffers would be good too.)
