[ESS] Xemacs icons are not shown on win2000

Dear list members,
some time ago I updated my
xemacs from 21.4.13 to 21.4.19 and R from 2.2.1 to 2.3.1.
After some teaching, I'm currently back to calculations
and I see that the files .R are not shown with the black X as I was used to,
but instead as generic icons.
How can I fix this inconvenience?
