[ESS] ESS with Cygwin and inferior-ess buffers

ESS explicitly uses the c:/ file notation. That is not the problem.

I have never used the cygwin emacs. I use the NTemacs
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/windows/emacs-21.3-fullbin-i386.tar.gz

Please do emacs -q --no-site-file . It is the only way to know what is
happening. The only items you need to individualize are the locations
of ESS, and maybe R. Try
 M-x R-2.3.1
instead of the simpler
 M-x R
We should automatically find R-2.3.1 as long as you installed R to
the standard place.
