[ESS] length of history

Dear ESS users,

I've been searching for a way to increase the size of the command history
ring, but cannot find the relevant variable in the ESS (5.2.11-1 Debian)
or Emacs (GNU Emacs 21.4.1 (i486-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll
bars) of 2005-10-02 on trouble, modified by Debian) manuals.  Can somebody
please point out where this should be set?
