[ESS] hitting return won't move the cursor down

"ess-do-auto-fill" to be exact...
I would want at least a workaround --- e.g. along the suggestion
from Rodney below --- ASAP and consider a bug release if needed.

Thank you, Rodney.

I have on old Xemacs (21.4.13) on my notebook, and I see that
there's no variable  enable-multibyte-characters   defined there.
However, I cannot produce the problem Tiago mentioned --- I
would want to in order that I can test a fix.

Tiago, can you give detailed instruction (what do you type in
which buffer in which order ...)  on how to produce the bug?
