Hello,

I am a long time user of Emacs and ESS --- but very poor at lisp
programming, I usually run S+6 on a remote Solaris server. I, normally, do
it by accessing the server through a Citrix application, then start Emacs
and then S+6 through ESS, works great and a millon thanks to all the
collaborators who make this possible.

But, there is always a but, today, for a reason unknown to me I can't
access the Solaris server through the normal route, our IT people are
working on this; but I also have Emacs (21.3.1) and ESS (5.2.2) on my PC
and I am trying to access a running (through telnet) S+6 session on the
Solaris server but with no luck so far.

I am following the instructions in the ESS documentation but to no avail?

1. Starting a new telnet buffer and connecting to the Solaris machine works
OK.
2. Starting S+6 on the Solaris machine works OK.
3. Then "M-x ess-remote" never prompts me for a program name, instead it
aborts with the message:

      Wrong type argument: processp, nil

Any idea, what should I do to get this running?

Thanks,
