ESS and Different Versions of SAS

Is there a way to be able to set up ESS to run different versions of
SAS?  We have SAS versions 6 and 8 on our system (Solaris), and I
can't seem to figure this one out.  I have tried to set the ESS
variable inferior-SAS-program-name to "sas6" or "sas8".  This doesn't
work, as M-x resets this to ../etc/ess-sas-sh-command and doesn't run
SAS 6 or 8.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
