Graphics device makes ESS hang on quitting

More data, please --  which version of Windows?  

Also, does this happen if running from a shell/terminal window with
Rterm (I.e. an "MSDOS" or "Cygwin" shell) , or from/within a shell
(M-x shell, start Rterm) from within Emacs?
