minimial Xemacs for ESS?

Alternatively, using the package system to retrieve what you need;
there are descriptions of each package.  It functions similar to how R
installs packages; it's on the pull-down menu, 

Tools -> Packages.

You need to go through each item on the menu:

        add download site
        update packages

etc...

The ESS package for XEmacs should be uploaded by next Tuesday, which
means that they should be up to date in about 2 weeks (shouldn't
affect R, but Rodney's done a good bit with SAS recently).
