defining additional inferior programs

I like your idea very much.  For the short run, I suggest staying with your
workaround and just use inferior-S+3-program-name.

For the longer range, we are starting to rethink the structure of ESS and
defining a simple, yet systematic, way to add new dialects is a very good
.idea.  Your proposal for defining a new variable set-inferior-R6-program
and augmenting the dialect list is the right approach.  What I would like to
do is figure a way to do that more simply.
