ESS and OS X

thanks for the advice. Everything is now up and running nicely. The only
glitch I encountered was that ESS didn't want to build the pdf
documentation, even though texinfo and pdflatex, etc, were installed.
Possibly this was because I was using the fink binary packages via apt-get
rather than compiling them myself.
