question about using Splus in emacs

This gets you to the 'ESS processes on Remote Computers
=================================' page.

There are three options described here.  All of them open up a shell and
tell Emacs that the shell is an ESS process.  Then you, the user, needs to
telnet (or equivalent) to the remote computer from within that shell and
start S-Plus on the remote computer.
