ES: minor, but disconcerting, problems

Hi All:
I am running ESS 5.1.19 with emacs 20.2.3 under solaris 2.7 as my interface
to Splus 6.04 revision 1.
While ESS is a wonderful tool, I have encountered several things that are
vexing:
a. Upon initiating s+6, I do not seem to have access to the namedb file that
contains the list of splus functions for completion purposes.
Instead, the first time I invoke help (C-c C-v), all attached
directories are scanned to create the list of functions. The result appears
in the process buffer.
b. I attach my working directory for a project in position 1. Despite
the fact that the function names are available for completion, each time I
invoke help,
all objects in the project directory are listed in the process
buffer. It as if C-c C-x (objects()) is being invoked.
c. The first time I invoke C-c C-x. The objects appear in the process
buffer. All subsequent invocations appear in the appropriate *S objects*
buffer.
d. using any of the ess functions always adds an extra '>' to the
last line in the process buffer.
These are probably trivial problems to fix but I have not been able to
figure out how to do so.
Would that I were more sophisticated about emacs/lisp/ess.
Any help appreciated,
Shawn Boles, Ph.D.
