query for large object display

What statistical language?  

If S (or R), the answer is actually no, you would have to rewrite the
S or R output routine ("print.default", or something like that) to go
through a pager if the size (dimensions or memory usage) is greater
than something.  

I've had reasonably okay luck with just hitting Ctl-G and Ctl-C often
and rapidly to try to pause things.  

But it isn't perfect.

Rodney's answer works well with SAS, I suspect (and with BUGS,
Rodney?)
